Getting there

From Fiumicino, the Leonardo Express train runs non-stop to Termini in 32 minutes, with trains every 15 minutes. Coaches run by COTRAL, Terravision, SIT and Rome Airport Bus also link the airport with Termini, stopping on Via Marsala and Via Giolitti. Official white taxis wait at the Terminal 1 and 3 arrivals and charge a fixed fare to the centre.

From Ciampino, direct coaches to Termini leave from in front of international departures, or you can take the Ciampino Airlink, a bus to Ciampino station followed by a train. From Termini, head out towards Piazza dei Cinquecento and pick up Via Cavour. Metro lines A and B both stop at Termini, and line B reaches Colosseo in two stops. If you come by car, there is no parking at the property: use a public garage near the station and check the official ZTL map before driving further into the centre.

What to see

Santa Maria Maggiore, with its fifth-century mosaics and the Salus Populi Romani icon, is around the corner. Palazzo Massimo and the Baths of Diocletian, both part of the National Roman Museum, are a few minutes away and open Tuesday to Sunday. Down Via Cavour lie Monti, with Piazza della Madonna dei Monti and its trattorias and shops, and San Pietro in Vincoli with Michelangelo's Moses.

The Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine require named tickets booked online for a time slot, and the Domus Aurea opens only Friday to Sunday by reservation. Around Termini, watch your belongings on the metro and on bus 64, and take normal care near the station in the evening.
